Now fetching external images/videos
Loforo will now fetch and mirror any external images (jpg, gif, webp, png) and videos (mp4 and webm) that are in posts to our server shortly after posting (so if that external service goes down or deletes the image/video, it'll always be available on Loforo).
We've also added full .webp
support (both static and animated webp images) to the image uploader (via our other service, Thumbsnap).
All existing posts with external content are being processed from newest to oldest at around 2000 posts per hour and we expect to be done with the full backlog in a few days.
For those more technically inclined: this mirroring only works with img
and video
tags at the moment and not any iframe
content so if you are linking posts from something like giphy, try to add the direct link to the gif/mp4/"gifv" and we'll be able to download it.
wait.. WEBP?! you're breahtaking! THANK YOU : )
Yep :) I’ve only tested with a couple of webp images but let me know if you find any images that aren’t converting correctly.
Question - When I go to create a post and my file upload box opens, I see in the bottom right corner "All supported types" - IN order to see all my files, I have to change to "All files" - to see everything that I have in the directory. Not once has something not uploaded so why isn't "All files" the default? It is your site or my system? Thanks.
I intentionally limited the "All supported types" to the formats used on the web (jpg/gif/png/webp/mp4/webm) which is what we officially support.
What is the file type you're uploading (that doesn't appear in the by the way?
Thumbsnap is capable of converting a handful of other formats that aren't so ideal for the web (like PDF, Photoshop, BMP, and such) so that may be why the all files option worked better for you. I've now changed it to whitelist all image and video files on the Create page.
.jpegs & .png's - the occasional .bmp, but that's getting pretty rare. I am old school, I don't even know what .webp
& webm's are. Thanks.
yea it's still not coming up "all files" on my system...shows supported types still.
On another note...
Any way to still be visible and not let people follow? I would prefer no followers...
Also it would be cool to be able to toggle off the red bell - I really don't need that info...
Which browser and OS are you using? It should now list anything that your OS supports as an image or video file in there with the change I made earlier.
Blocking all followers as a public user isn't planned (only for an upcoming private blog). I have plans to add a toggle to disable notifications though.
Cool. I am using firefox, waterfox and tor - It depends on what mood I am in. Sometimes your site doesn't play well with tor and I have to use a different one. I am using windows 7 pro 64 bit... Maybe after a reboot it will work.
I use Firefox as my main browser also.
It would be pretty difficult to make Loforo work with Tor though because we do use a good bit of Javascript for things like the 1-click reblog, image uploading and a few other things and Tor by default blocks Javascript at the high security levels.
Ah.
