Hashtags! #tag your posts
Another highly requested feature, hashtags, have arrived!
You can tag your posts with any keywords to help you and others find posts about a subject or theme.
Adding a hashtag is easy -- goto the "Create post" page and at the bottom, you'll find a place to add 1 or more tags for your posts. You can just tap the pre-set tags we've added or type in your own tags separated by commas.
You and your site's visitors can see the tags for a post below the post and click a tag to see other posts sharing the same tag.
You can also edit your existing posts to add tags to them. Here's a sample tag page for #cats.
A tag listing/tag-cloud page will be added in the near future.
Can you make it that when used the # sign just disappears and just the tag itself is displayed? the worst thing about hashtags is that it really fucks with readability when people use them excessively...
Also, could the next feature please be notifications for comments on posts (own and posts you've commented on)? A little bit more control over what generates a notification would also be nice (notifications for reposts of my own reposts are really not necessary...). Thanks!
@artifexexmachina You mean the # in the list of tags at the bottom of the published posts?
Notifications on comments are a high priority item and should arrive soon (we're currently working on @mentions).
Also in text. Hashtags have this nasty abilities to be abused to hell and back. It's bad enough that some people on the internet speak entirely in buzzwords but since hashtags are a thing this has only gotten worse.
I would bring up pretty much the same complaint for the @ in mentions although that's not as bad as the #. No need to copy twitters bad design decisions :D
You could just give them different color/hover effects if those things need to be distinguished from regular links.
@artifexexmachina We don't support adding hashtags in the text of the post itself, they're entered in a dedicated tag section and have a few limits currently (200 characters max for all tags and such) so it shouldn't add noise to the posts.
@ mentions, when released, will support the user-blocking feature we already have so if someone abuses the @ mention you can just block that user to prevent any more notifications.
Great! Glad tags are back. This is good timing since unfortunately, Pillowfort is down for a time being, which is why I am glad we have Loforo. So, when is a search functionality coming? I heard you guys were going to start adding it once tags are added. Now that tags are added, what timeline do you think you would be able to do that as far as adding search functionality goes?
We like the Tags. Also: Welcome to the comment section!
Could you add tags to reposts in the future?
@artsycosmicdreamer Search is in the works. Not sure on exact timeline but we work pretty fast :)
Re: "tags to reposts" -- if you repost a post that has tags, the tags are preserved. Are you asking for something else?
up to now all the changes have been welcome additions. The trending box and top sites now make you look like twitter and they are not necessary - I can use adblock plus to block the elements but what's the point. It will be easier to stop using loforo. Thanks.
https://oneeyed.loforo.com/mass-postingspam not related to tags that much, but maybe you could take a look at this?
@carmenluna Posted a comment on that post
thank you! 🖤
I can only see tagged posts on a tag-page if i am logged in. Is this a bug or a feature?
Try this: Log out and go to https://loforo.com/tag/loforo
Thanks for reporting that @bert. It's now fixed and non-logged in users can now view tag pages.
@blog excellent!
I got two more bugs with tags. This post: https://bert.loforo.com/twins Does not appear here: https://loforo.com/tag/helth Also, I am not able to remove a tag, once a post is tagged
The reason that one post didn't appear for you is because the automatic NSFW-tagger tagged that post as NSFW (probably because there's a lot of skin). Since you're probably browsing with NSFW off, it didn't appear in the tag page for you (it does if you turned NSFW on). I'll check out the other issue with removing tags.
We need a search engine, this is a must.
@wicked-kingdom If you've tagged a post, you can go to the tag pages directly to find it. Searching without tags is a bit tricky to implement since we're such an image heavy site but it is in our todo (we'd have to apply some image-to-text conversions which requires a lot more processing power).
